Mini-Schnauzers Make Wonderful Pets

Hi, I'm Blizzard and I am a white Miniature Schnauzer. White Mini-Schnauzers are quite rare and we are not recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and cannot participate in dog shows in the United States. Why? I don't know because we are still a purebred, just a different color. Most Schnauzers are either black, silver and black or a salt and pepper color. I think I am quite unique being white. I know there are groups working on getting us white Schnauzers recognized by the AKC but until then, we will continue to be the loving puppies we are.

Us Schnauzers are very easy to housebreak. Puppies usually take only about 4-6 weeks to train. I was 3 months hold when Mommy and Daddy got me and before I was 5 months old, I was totally housebroken. But I had a dog door and Schnoods and Amour both to help me. So maybe I had a slight advantage over other puppies.

We have very distinct personalities. Actually you could say that we have 3 different ones within our own breed. The first one (like me) is extremely outgoing and loves everyone whether they are family or strangers. The second one attaches themselves wholly to just their family and a frequent visitor and the third one (which doesn't sound like any fun at all), is the true "one-person" Schnauzer who only adapts to one person. It's not that we somestimes don't like strangers, but we are leery of them. We bark when we see someone we don't recognize, so I guess you could say we are good alarm dogs. If we see something that isn't quite right, we will usually let you know about it. Some people may consider us "yappy" but usually we don't bark unless we have a reason to.

Keeping us healthy and our teeth healthy is a very important part of pet ownership. See me in this picture on the left? Chewing on rawhide bones help keep my teeth white and removes the tarter buildup that occurs. The bones are hard and rub against my teeth and scrape a lot of the tarter away. Mommy does brush my teeth also with doggy toothpaste. I don't mind it at all. The toothpaste tastes pretty good. I go to the vet at least once a year for my annual vaccinations and a thorough checkup. So far I have been pretty lucky. The only time I have had to go other than for checkups was one time I had an ear infection. I got some drops that Mommy had to put in my ears twice a day. That took care of it and I felt much better.

Hey, if you ever want to email me and ask me anything more about Mini-Schnauzers or what it's like to be a Mini-Schnauzer, just click here and I will be happy to answer or at least try to answer any questions you may have. Or if you just want to comment about something, feel free to do so.

It was great being able to share some things about me with you and I'm glad Schnooder let me have some space on his website to talk just about me. I get to share in some of the spotlight, too and being a Mini-Schnauzer, we want to be involved in everything.
